It’s For Two is a recipe blog about cooking for two people: small-batch dinners, desserts, baking and drinks, all scaled for a household of two. This page explains what information It’s For Two collects when you visit itsfortwo.com, how that information is used, and the choices you have about it. By using this website, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use the site.
We’ve tried to write this in plain English. Where a law requires something specific, we name the law and explain what it means for you.
Children and This Website
It’s For Two is written for adults. The site isn’t directed at children under the age of 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, in keeping with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We encourage parents and guardians to take an active role in their children’s online activity.
If you’re a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information, please email us at contact@itsfortwo.com. We’ll delete that information from our records as quickly as we can.
The Information We Collect
It’s For Two collects two kinds of information: details you choose to give us, and details collected automatically when you browse.
Information you give us may include:
- your name
- your email address
- your phone number or mailing address, only if you include them in a message
- payment information, only if It’s For Two ever sells a product such as a cookbook or meal plan, in which case a third-party payment processor handles the transaction
- anything you write in a comment, contact form or survey
Information collected automatically may include:
- your IP address
- your browser type and version
- your operating system and device type
- your internet service provider (ISP)
- the date and time of your visit
- referring and exit pages, such as the Pinterest pin or search result that brought you here
- the pages you view and how you move around the site
We collect this information through contact forms, blog comments, newsletter signups, purchases (if any are ever offered), server log files, Google Analytics, and cookies and similar technologies, all described below.
Server Log Files
Like most websites, It’s For Two uses standard log files. Whenever you visit, our hosting provider’s servers automatically record basic technical details, including your IP address, browser type, ISP, date and time stamp, referring and exit pages, and the number of clicks.
We use this information to spot technical problems, understand traffic trends, manage the site and get a broad picture of who visits. Log data isn’t linked to anything that identifies you personally.
Cookies and How You Can Control Them
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. They help a site remember things about your visit, like your preferences, and they help site owners understand how people use their pages.
It’s For Two uses cookies to keep the site working properly, to remember your preferences, to learn which recipes readers find most useful, and, where advertising appears, to help deliver relevant ads. Where the law requires it, we’ll ask for your consent before setting cookies that aren’t strictly necessary.
You can choose to block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Each browser handles this a little differently, so check your browser’s help pages for instructions. If you turn cookies off, some parts of the site may not work as intended.
Web Beacons, Pixels and Tags
Web beacons, pixels and tags are tiny pieces of code that load with a page or an email. They let a service know that a page was viewed or an email was opened.
It’s For Two uses these technologies through our analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site. Social platforms such as Pinterest may also use tags to measure how our content performs on their platforms. If It’s For Two works with advertising partners now or in the future, those partners may use their own beacons and pixels too, as described in the advertising section below.
Google Analytics
It’s For Two uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service from Google LLC, to understand how visitors find and use the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay and the website that referred you. We see this information in aggregated reports, not as details about you personally.
Google’s use of this data is governed by Google’s privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. If you’d rather not be included in Google Analytics, you can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
How Your Information Is Used
It’s For Two uses the information it collects to:
- run, maintain and improve the website, including learning which recipes are most helpful and fixing pages that don’t work
- answer your questions, messages and comments
- send you our newsletter, if you’ve signed up
- personalize your experience on the site
- tell you about new recipes, features and offers, with your consent where the law requires it
- detect and prevent spam, fraud and security problems
- meet our legal obligations
Comments and Social Media
When you leave a comment on It’s For Two, we collect the name and email address you enter, the comment itself, and your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. Your email address is never shown publicly. Comments may be checked by an automated spam-filtering service.
Your name and comment will be visible to anyone who reads the post. Please don’t include private information you wouldn’t want others to see.
If you interact with It’s For Two on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook or another social platform, that platform’s own privacy policy governs what it collects. Anything you post publicly there can be seen by others.
The It’s For Two Newsletter
If you subscribe to the It’s For Two newsletter, we’ll collect your email address and, if you provide it, your first name. We use these to send new recipes for two, seasonal menu ideas and occasional offers. Your details are stored with the email service provider we use to send the newsletter.
Our emails follow the CAN-SPAM Act. Every email clearly identifies It’s For Two as the sender, uses honest subject lines, includes a mailing address, and contains a clear unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe, we’ll stop sending you marketing emails within 10 business days. We never sell your email address.
How to Opt Out
You’re always in control of how It’s For Two communicates with you. You can:
- unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link at the bottom of any email
- email contact@itsfortwo.com and ask to be removed from our list
- block or delete cookies through your browser settings
- opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on, linked above
- opt out of personalized advertising using the tools in the next section
Advertising on It’s For Two
To keep our recipes free, It’s For Two may work with third-party advertising partners now or in the future. These partners may use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to collect information about your visits to this site and other websites. They use that information to show ads that match your interests and to measure how well those ads perform.
It’s For Two doesn’t have access to or control over the cookies these partners use. Their own privacy policies govern how they handle your information.
You can opt out of interest-based advertising from many companies through:
- the Network Advertising Initiative: https://optout.networkadvertising.org
- the Digital Advertising Alliance: https://optout.aboutads.info
- for visitors in Europe, Your Online Choices: https://www.youronlinechoices.eu
Opting out doesn’t mean you’ll stop seeing ads. It means the ads you see won’t be based on your browsing interests.
Affiliate Links and Amazon Associates
It’s For Two participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. This means that if you click a link to a product, such as a 6-inch cake pan or an instant-read thermometer, and make a purchase, It’s For Two may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, It’s For Two earns from qualifying purchases.
Affiliate partners may use cookies to track that you arrived from our site. Posts that contain affiliate links are clearly marked.
Videos, Images and Other Embedded Content
Some posts on It’s For Two may include embedded content from other websites, such as YouTube videos, Pinterest pins or Instagram posts. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you’d visited the other website directly.
Those websites may collect data about you, set cookies, add third-party tracking and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, especially if you’re logged into an account with them.
Links to Other Websites
Recipes and articles on It’s For Two sometimes link to other websites. This privacy policy applies only to itsfortwo.com. Once you leave our site, the other website’s own policy applies, so please review it. We aren’t responsible for the content or privacy practices of sites we don’t control.
When Information Is Shared
It’s For Two doesn’t sell your personal information for money. We share information only in these situations:
- Service providers: companies that help us run the site, such as web hosting, email delivery, analytics, spam filtering and payment processing. They receive only what they need to do their job and are expected to protect it.
- Legal requirements: when we believe disclosure is required by law, a court order or a government request, or is needed to protect the rights, property or safety of It’s For Two, our readers or others.
- Business transfers: if It’s For Two is sold, merged or transferred, visitor information may be passed to the new owner, who would remain bound by this policy.
- With your permission: in any other situation where you’ve agreed to it.
How Long Information Is Kept
We keep information only as long as we need it:
- Comments: kept indefinitely, along with their metadata, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them for moderation.
- Newsletter details: kept until you unsubscribe. We may keep your email address on a suppression list so we don’t email you again by mistake.
- Messages you send us: kept as long as needed to respond and keep a reasonable record.
- Analytics data: kept according to the retention settings in our analytics account.
Some information may be kept longer if the law requires it.
Keeping Your Information Safe
It’s For Two uses reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect your information, including a secure HTTPS connection, trusted hosting and limited access to personal data. Still, no method of transmitting or storing data online is 100% secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights if You Live in the EU or UK (GDPR)
If you’re in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you rights over your personal data. It’s For Two processes your data based on your consent (for example, for the newsletter and non-essential cookies), our legitimate interest in running and securing the site, and our legal obligations.
You have the right to:
- Access: ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification: ask us to correct information that’s inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erasure: ask us to delete your personal data.
- Restriction: ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Objection: object to us processing your data, including for direct marketing.
- Data portability: ask us to send your data to you or another organization in a common format.
- Withdraw consent: withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting processing that happened before.
- Complain: lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority in your country.
To use any of these rights, email contact@itsfortwo.com. We’ll respond within one month. Because It’s For Two is run from the United States, your information may be processed there. Where that happens, we rely on our service providers’ legal safeguards for international transfers.
Your Rights if You Live in California (CCPA)
If you’re a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the following rights:
- Right to know: ask what personal information we’ve collected about you, where it came from, why we collected it and who we’ve shared it with.
- Right to delete: ask us to delete the personal information we’ve collected from you, with some legal exceptions.
- Right to correct: ask us to fix personal information that’s inaccurate.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing: tell us “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.”
- Right to non-discrimination: we won’t treat you differently for using any of these rights.
It’s For Two doesn’t sell personal information for money. However, under California law, allowing advertising partners to use cookies for interest-based ads can count as “sharing” personal information. To opt out, email contact@itsfortwo.com with the subject line “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information,” use the opt-out tools in the advertising section above, or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser, which we’ll treat as an opt-out request where we’re able to detect it.
We aim to respond to verified requests within one month, and always within the 45 days California law allows. If we need more time, we’ll let you know.
Changes to This Policy
It’s For Two may update this privacy policy from time to time as the site grows, as we add new tools or partners, or as laws change. When we do, we’ll update the effective date at the top of this page.
If you keep using the site after changes are posted, that means you accept the updated policy. Since you’re responsible for staying informed, please check this page every so often.
Questions and Privacy Requests
If you have questions about this policy, want to see or delete your information, or want to make any other privacy request, please email:
Put “Privacy Request” in the subject line so your message reaches the right place quickly. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request for your data.
